NEW HAVEN - Recycling start-up Protein Evolution has teamed up with AI-biodesign specialist Basecamp Research to explore how advanced enzyme development can help reduce polyurethane and certain types of polyamides such as nylon waste.
PEI's proprietary technology uses enzymes to biologically break down synthetic textile and plastic waste. Currently at pilot scale and with a focus up to now on reducing polyester waste, PEI is building its own industrial scale plant to process 50,000 tonnes of synthetic textiles per year.
