Fixing Fashion: Five years on

Last decade, it was decided that the fashion industry and Britain’s relationship with apparel consumption needed to be investigated by parliamentarians. An inquiry was established and formally began evidence gathering in the autumn of 2018, with MPs on the Environmental Audit Committee gathering written and oral testimony from people with a wide range of specialisms within the fashion ecosystem.

Dozens of industry decision makers, designers, campaigners and academics were all either invited or volunteered to share their experiences and perspectives to help the committee shape its evidence.

In early 2019, the Fixing Fashion report was published. Several months later, all its recommendations were ignored by the then government.

Now, five years on from its publication, we assess the lasting impact of a document that has been read the world over.
