EVANSTON - Scientists say they have developed a new catalyst that quickly, cleanly and completely breaks down nylon-6 in a matter of minutes — without generating harmful by-products.

US researchers at Northwestern University say the process - which does not require toxic solvents - could be used in a first step to recycle nylon-6 waste into new products.
