TOKYO - Asahi Kasei says the recent adoption of a mass balance approach to its manufacturing process means that it can now supply low carbon footprint stretch fibres under its Roica brand. The announcement follows a deal with chemical giant BASF for the supply of its biomass-based tetrahydrofuran (THF), a key ingredient in the manufacture of elastane fibres.
The deal means that Asahi Kasei will replace conventional THF feedstock with THF made from renewable resources such as bio-naphtha or biomethane derived from organic waste, crops or vegetable oils.
