OTTAWA - The Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE) is to investigate fashion brand Ralph Lauren for allegedly benefitting from forced labour in the Xinjiang region of China.
It follows a complaint from a coalition of 28 civil society organisations and a CORE decision last month to launch a similar investigation into sportswear giant Nike, and also gold mining company Dynasty.
“I have decided that the Ralph Lauren complaint warrants an investigation,” said ombudsperson Sheri Meyerhoffer in a statement.
