BANGLEDESH - Unions are calling for a big wage increase for garment workers in Bangladesh which has been hit by its highest rate of inflation in 11 years.
Bangladeshi affiliates of the IndustriALL global union are demanding that the minimum wage raises from BDT8,000 (US$75) to BDT23,000 (US$215) a month.
The demands include the minimum wage of an-entry level garment worker being fixed at BDT23,000 (US$215), with a yearly increment of ten per cent as opposed to the current five per cent.
