PAIMOIO – Finnish design house Marimekko has announced the launch of a ‘closed-loop project’ through which it will produce a capsule collection of garments which integrate post-industrial textile waste.
The company announced the initiative at a recent technology event held in Helsinki, where it disclosed that it would be working with Portuguese manufacturer Pedrosa & Rodrigues to develop the apparel.
Rebekka Bay, Marimekko’s creative director, commented: “Through our material strategy including investing in new material innovations, our long-term ambition is to move towards fully circular materials that can be recycled several times without a decline in the quality or durability of the fibre.”
