ST GALLEN - Chemical management specialist Bluesign has announced revisions to its system to achieve more responsible and sustainable manufacturing in the textiles industry.
They include a ban on the use of enzymes in powder form. Enzymes can achieve water and energy savings in pretreatment and dyeing, as well as in denim laundries, but inhaling powder-based enzymes can cause breathing difficulties.
And, as previously announced, textiles finished with PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) - typically used for durable water repellent (DWR) coatings - will be phased out from the Bluesign guide from July 2024.
