BRUSSELS - The European Union is being urged to issue a ban on imports of products believed to have been made using forced labour, such as cotton from the Xinjiang region of China.
The European Parliament’s Trade Committee this week made the recommendation and said the ban should be "based on best practices of the countries with similar legislation in place such as US and Canada".
The committee called for a total ban on the “import and export of products made or transported by forced labour”, as well as those found within the EU’s single market.
