WASHINGTON DC - A new law which would force larger companies to undergo audits to ensure they are not using forced labour in their supply chains — with steep fines for those that fail to comply — is being proposed in the US.
The proposed Slave-Free Business Certification Act has been put forward only two months after President Joe Biden signed off on the US's new Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act.
The bipartisan bill, introduced by Republican Senator Josh Hawler and Democrat counterpart Kirsten Gillibrand, makes no specific reference of China's action in its Xinjiang region.
