WASHINGTON DC — Five key industry bodies have backed the proposed Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act which would ban all US imports made with forced labour in the Xinjiang region of China.
The White House has confirmed that US president Joe Biden will sign off the bill which was recently approved by both the House of Representatives and the Senate
The legislation would have major implications for the apparel industry as the region - where around 1.8 million Uyghur Muslims are incarcerated - supplies a fifth of the world's cotton.
