LONDON – The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has launched the world’s first net-zero corporate standard in a bid to align industry-wide efforts.
“Companies are currently self-defining net-zero targets without credible and independent assessment of their ambition and integrity,” said Alberto Carrillo Pineda, the initiative’s co-founder and managing director.
An initial seven firms – including vaccine developer AstraZeneca – have had their net-zero targets certified and companies are encouraged to have theirs approved to ensure they conform with the latest climate science.
