DHAKA - The Bangladeshi government has agreed to a plea from garment manufacturers to allow their factories to remain open during an upcoming lockdown to arrest a spike in COVID-19 cases.
The government has decided to allow factories to run during the lockdown, which will be enforced from 14 April, to avoid closing down the industry which is key to the national economy.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) had urged the government to keep factories open.
