LONDON – The UK’s Textile Recycling Association (TRA) has urged fashion industry stakeholders to rally behind a new waste prevention programme outlined by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
DEFRA last week published the proposals, which it said would “ramp up action on fast fashion and hold manufacturers accountable for textile waste”.
The TRA has given its backing for the programme – which details action across seven key sectors also including packaging, plastics and single-use items – and believes that a suggested Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme would go “some way” in making the industry more sustainable.
