DHAKA – More than 700 former garment factory workers in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, have staged a sit-in demonstration for the second day running, as they demand their arrears for the past ten months.
Their former employer, A-One BD Ltd., closed the site in March at a critical point as the coronavirus began sweeping nations globally, and is yet to compensate the site’s 1,100 employees.
With neither the site owner, Italian businessman Alessandra Ferry, or the authorities taking accountability to support this group, this year has proven tremendously difficult, with one protestor telling local news outlet The Daily Star: “We cannot provide for our families”.
