CALIFORNIA – The California State Senate Committee has approved a new bill which, if passed by the Senate Appropriations Committee, would expand wage theft liability in California’s garment manufacturing industry and make it essential that brands and retailers, not factory owners, are responsible for worker pay.
“There’s definitely more opportunities for enforcement. That’s the goal,” said Marissa Nuncio, director of the Garment Worker Center, which is co-sponsoring the bill. “With expanded liability, there’s opportunity, via inclusion of more-responsible parties, that workers will be able to recover their unpaid wages.”
