GUIMARES - Portuguese textiles firm Têxteis Penedo is developing cork into a new eco-fabric for home textiles.

The firm has opened a factory at its headquarters in the city of Guimarães to manufacture its new 'Cork-a-Tex' fabric which is made of 30 per cent cork fibre and 70 per cent cotton.

Portugal is the world’s leading producer of cork, a natural resource made from the bark of the Quercus suber tree, or cork tree.
