Imagine a new mobile phone app that could be used by consumers to scan barcodes on clothing labels to flag up details of any potentially hazardous textile chemicals which may have been used in its production. It’s something that industry has talked about for years. But this could now be a step closer to reality with the introduction of a new app – already downloaded by 350,000 users – that is being used to identify the use of endocrine disruptors in cosmetics and which suggests 'safer' alternatives to shoppers.
