MUMBAI - The Cotton Egypt Association presented Indian textile giant Welspun with the Egyptian Cotton Gold Seal in three product categories as part of a DNA-based authentication program just months before Target cut ties with the Mumbai business for supplying fake Indian Egyptian cotton sheets. The revelation raises serious questions about the DNA identification process for Egyptian cotton and once again highlights problems with transparency in the some global cotton supply chains.
