BRUSSELS – The European Commission has decided to re-evaluate the REACH status of a chemical used in the production of elastane textile fibres with the possibility that instead of being put on a list where the authorisation of its use is required – it could be placed on list which potentially bans its use in Europe altogether.
In addition, potential legislation is also now being considered to more tightly control PFOA sometimes found on textile articles throughout Europe. A starting point for discussion is a limit of 2 parts per billion (ppb).
